I have no idea who "R.R. Merliss" was, and a search of the internet turns up nothing about him (her?) except that he (?) wrote this short story, which was published in Analog in 1955, and apparently nothing else. Whoever Merliss was, this is a very good science fiction story, about an intelligent robot trying to escape from Earth military forces seeking to destroy him and his fellow robots. In some ways this reminds me of Philip K. Dick's early work, in the way it questions what it means to be "human." Recommended.Product details
